Smart Water Practices

Everyone Can Make a Difference: 10 Actions You Can Take

  1. Recycle and properly dispose of waste products
  2. Have your onsite septic system pumped and inspected at least every three years.
  3. Try not to over-fertilize your lawn; high nitrogen fertilizers run off and pollute local streams and waterways
  4. Build rain gardens and/or use rain barrels to slow water run-off
  5. Create a wildlife habitat in your backyard
  6. Be kind to your woodlands, streams and riparian buffers
  7. Reduce your lawn-print and replace with native plants and ground covers
  8. Have your well water tested periodically to ensure it is fit to drink
  9. Join environmentally-oriented like ours to help protect drinking water sources
  10. If you see something, say something…call your town, county or state resources if you see a pollution situation
